"Rhydin Etiquette 101"
Part 2: The Honor and Dishonor of Battle
Lesson 1: Before you grab your sword...
In the Land of Rhydin, though it's a very beautiful and exotic land, it's also a blood drenched land full of warriors and the like. It's very easy to find a battle here. But what kind of battle you are looking is where you need your mind before your sword. You CAN'T challenge anyone to any battle you wish. You may be looking for a simple spar, but the warrior you challenged may want your head on his/her mantle.
Lesson 2: The Six Degrees of FightingTo make sure you all understand the different rules of fighting in Rhydin, you will have look into the Six Degrees...
Degree 1: The Simple Spar
This is where you and your opponent battle for no cost other than egos. The safest kind of battle and mostly used to train or test. But also the least loved of the Six Degrees due to warrior's lust for REAL battle and gore.
Degree 2: The Noble Honor Match
The honor match, or HM as it's known, is where you and your opponent fight to settle old scores/grievences. This battle is more loved than a spar, for it's a REAL battle, but there are battles a Rhydinan warrior loves more.
Degree 3: The Sultry Slave Match
The slave match, or SM, is where you and your opponent fight for ownership of the other. ::Chuckles:: That's right! You fight to make a slave or become a slave. The length of slavery is agreed before combat, but is rarely a lifetime term. This match, though disputed, is a very loved battle theme but second to the GREAT one.
Degree 4: The Prisoner Of War
The Prisoner of War match, or POW, is only for those in a guild and is only offered in a guild war. This is where you and your opponent fight for the victory of your guild. The loser is taken prisoner by the enemy guild for as long as the war goes on or escapes. This battle theme is mostly used by higher class guild members, with a few exceptions.
Degree 5: The Release Match
This match is double jointed, for it can be used by guild members and regular warriors alike. But when to use them is different. RMs are used by guild members for freeing their imprisoned conrads during a war, though not oftenly used. For the regular warrior, RMs are used to free enslaved friends/family. Though the uses of the RM is different, the results are the same. If the winner is the challenged one, the challenger is also imprisoned/enslaved. This match is the rare degree for not many know of it or use it.
Degree 6: The DEATH Match:
This match is by far the most LOVED of the Six Degrees, for oblivous reasons. This match is where the loser dies. In Rhydin, death is by the erasure of a character's identity on AOL. The profile/life scroll is erased and also the screen name(SN), but erasing the SN is not required 'less it was agreed to do so. Most warriors in Rhydin love to DM a foolish bad boy/girl or a peon that just happen to piss the warrior off. Be very wary of this match, students and BE VERY SURE OF YOUR CHOICE TO FIGHT.
Lesson 3: Fight Invitation... For OpponentLike I said, it's very easy to get a battle in Rhydin. But you have to be sure where, when, why and who to challenge. If you want to challenge someone you don't know, you better be VERY CLEAR on why you want to challenge and the consequences that will follow. Those who want to spar are best to challenge friends or go to a sparring ring, which are found much like the inns and taverns in Rhydin. The other matchs are more of a personal challenge and must be offered with a firm, but noble approach. To down right attack your potential opponent(Physically or Verbally) will only anger him/her and you will end up either being ignored or hunted out and put out of your misery.
Lesson 4: Fight Invitation... For YouYou must know that you DON'T have to accept any challenges from anyone. But if you do, be aware of why you are fighting and be responsible for what happens during your battle. When you accept a battle, you MUST fight or RESCHEDULE if you can't fight now. Running away from your ACCEPTED challenge will only label your mun a bad role player and you will not be respected in Rhydin.
Lesson 5: Battlefield MannersOn the battlefield, is very important to remember these rules:
Rule 1: Never come to a battle alone, 'less you and your opponent know and respect each other. If you do go it alone, be on your guard all the time.
Rule 2: Have a proctor ready. It's very important to have a "Third Party" that will govern your battle without worry of treatious games.
Rule 3: Fight Fairly. Never use dice manipulating programs, IMing your opponent needlessly, and leaving & return to the battlefield needlessly. This shows that your mun is a bad role player.
Rule 4: Be a good sport, in victory or defeat. This is for the mun in particular. Muns have a nasty habit of losing control and go from IC (in character) to OOC (out of character) when their online personas lose an important match, namely a DM. If you lose, accept your fate and more on. If you win, be humble and don't gloat... for it leads to bad karma.
Lesson 6: Revenge is a dish best served with wisdomFinally, to end this session, we will talk about revenge. One must remember that in revenge, YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET IT. If you, the mun, lose your favorite persona in a DM, you can make a new one to go after the persona that killed yours. But you have to know that you can lose your new persona too. If you have friends with personas that can take revenge for you, don't ask them to do it if they don't want to risk losing their persona. All in all, it's better to let your loss be lost and start anew. This principle is the same in all other situations.
